Our Focus

Social & Ecological Justice

As Brigidines, we stand in reverence for the community of life and will continue to engage with others in a variety of ways to further compassion and justice for humanity and for planet Earth.

We have a growing appreciation that everything is connected. Thus our focus and our concerns for eco-justice as well as for social justice remain at the heart of our Brigidine commitment.

As Pope Francis reminds us:

“We are not faced with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social, but rather with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental.”

Laudato Si’, 139

Furthering the Reign of God through engagement in working to build a more just society has been central to the Brigidine story.

We continue to work in a variety of formal and informal ways as advocates for people who are marginalized in our world today – asylum seekers, refugees, travellers, indigenous and islander peoples and people vulnerable to being trafficked and exploited.

The world in which we live continues to be marred by systemic discrimination and injustice.

As Brigidines we are committed to working with our colleagues and others to help bring the reforms needed for the realisation of a more just world.
